Camilla Lian presented SisAl Slag at the 5th NordBatt 2022 conference at Chalmers University.
The conference focus on materials development, cell electrochemistry and battery usage in different applications and Camilla presented extraction of high-purity alumina (HPA) from the SisAL slag process. This method could provide a less energy intensive and cheaper pathway to HPA production, while also maximizing the utilization of the slag. Furthermore, a coating pathway for using the HPA as a ceramic coating for battery separators was developed. This stabilizes the system to short-circuiting, ultimately improving the operational safety of Li-ion batteries.
